Kcalzone is a calorie diary. It is built so that your food, your weight and your photos stay with you. This page says exactly what leaves your phone, why, and what does not.
What stays on your phone
- Your diary: meals, ingredients, portions, calories and macros.
- Your weight history, steps and active energy, and the targets computed from them.
- Your meal photos and progress photos, stored in the app's own folder on the device.
- Your profile: age, height, weight, goal, activity level, diet type, reminders.
There is no account and no sign-in. Nothing above is uploaded to us or to anyone else, except as described in the next section.
What leaves your phone, and why
- Meal photos you scan. When you photograph a meal, that photo is sent to our estimation service so it can return an estimate of what is on the plate. The photo is processed and discarded; it is not stored on our servers or used to train anything. The service uses a third-party AI model to produce the estimate, under terms that prohibit retention for training.
- Meal descriptions you type or say. Treated the same way as a photo: sent, estimated, discarded. Speech is turned into text on your device by Apple's speech recognition; only the text is sent.
- Assistant questions. A question to the assistant is sent with a short summary of your day (what you have logged, your targets) so the answer can be about you. Sent, answered, discarded.
- Barcodes. A barcode you scan is looked up on Open Food Facts, a public database. Only the barcode number is sent.
- An anonymous install identifier. A random identifier created when the app is first opened, sent with requests to our service so we can limit abuse and count free scans. It is not linked to your name, email, Apple ID or any other account, because we do not have any of those.
- Purchases. Subscriptions are handled by Apple. We receive confirmation that a subscription is active, never your payment details.
- Apple Health. Only if you turn it on: Kcalzone reads steps, active energy and weight, and writes the meals and weight you log. This is a direct exchange between the app and Health on your phone; nothing passes through us.
What we do not do
- No advertising, no advertising identifiers, no ad networks.
- No analytics SDKs. We do not track what you tap.
- No selling or sharing of data with anyone.
- No tracking across other apps or websites, as the App Store defines it.
Deleting your data
Delete the app and everything it stored is deleted with it. Before you do, Settings can export a summary of your diary as a PDF if you want to keep one. Because there is no account, there is nothing to delete on our side beyond the anonymous identifier, which stops being used the moment the app is gone.
Children
Kcalzone is not directed at children under 16 and does not knowingly collect anything from them.
Changes
If this page changes in a way that matters, the date at the top changes with it and the app's next update will say so.
